There is nothing that compares to the adventure of pursuing western big game in the wilderness of Colorado. Wake each morning to the cool crisp air. Ride out of camp in the predawn hours. The creak of your saddle and the methodical beat of horses hoofs picking their way through the darkness are the only sounds you hear. Then a bull bugles a challenge. The hair on the back of your neck stands up and adrenaline enters your bloodstream. The chase is on! Nothing quite compares to the romance of traditional pack-in elk hunting.
This is the ultimate in elk hunting. No high fences to bind you or the elk, just miles of seemingly endless elk habitat. There is no greater hunting accomplishment than having harvested a wilderness bull elk. Pack-in elk hunts are our specialty. We raise and train most all of our stock for the rigors of this type of hunt. All of our equipment is top notch and has been field tested, tried and true in the wilderness. Having outfitted in these same areas for over 20 years we have become very accustomed to the patterns of this particular herd. Oftentimes we know how they are going to react before they do.
Although remote, our camps are very comfortable, with nothing spared for your complete and total satisfaction. Many past clients refer to it as the 
"High County Hilton". Feast each day on home cooked meals. Enjoy stories of the days hunt around the fire each night. As with all of our hunts your satisfaction is our top priority. Nothing is spared to insure that you leave happy. We limit our camp to 6 hunters, with a client to guide ratio of 2 to 1. I personally run the guided camps and also employ a highly qualified staff. There is nearly as much supporting help as there are clients in camp, we provide quality efficient service. This allows you to concentrate on bagging that big bull elk. Wilderness Pack-in Archery Hunts
On this hunt we pack into the wilderness to our base camp, deep into the heart of Elk country. The hunting area consists of deep grassy valleys, stands of dark timber, high ridges, and parks of alpine tundra above timberline. Numerous wallows decorate the many secluded basins. Mornings usually include bugling bulls. Afternoons will find you sitting active wallows or high on a ridge glassing elk formulating a plan of attack. All of our guided hunts are 2 hunters per guide and our camps are never overbooked. Even though our camps are extremely remote they are still well outfitted. We also have spike camps that are
set in even more remote areas that seldom see a hunter. We specialize in small camps and high success. Archery wilderness trips are 6 days of hunting with a day of travel at each end to make an 8 day total trip. This trip is also available Semi-Guided. On a semi-guided trip we provide a fully outfitted camp and food. Everything is the same as a guided trip, but with out the guide. Do take into consideration in the wilderness guided hunters have a much higher success rate. Having a guide that knows the country and the game by your side is invaluable.

Wilderness Pack-in Timberline Mule Deer Hunting
For this hunt we pack deep into the Uncompahgre Wilderness and hunt these Monster Mule Deer above timberline and beyond. Each summer these big boys call this area home. For several years we have only hunted elk in these drainages, and left the deer undisturbed. After several years of scouting and drooling over these bucks we have opened the first two weeks of archery season to hunt these trophies. There has not been trophy potential like this for 30 years. This is the most action packed hunt available today.

Guided Wilderness Pack-in Rifle Hunting
Our guided camps are in a Limited Draw Unit that takes several years to draw a tag. 
This works out well because this popular hunt books up several years in advance. If you are looking for a truly exceptional Colorado Rifle hunt planning ahead and getting a tag in a limited unit is well worth the wait. We pack to our base camp deep in the heart or elk country. This is the way elk hunting should be. No fences or seas of orange vests, just seemingly endless untouched elk country. You will be provided with a well outfitted camp, two home cooked meals, and a sack lunch each day. 1 knowledgeable guide per two hunters will assist you on your adventure. This trip is 5 days of hunting and 1 day of travel at each end for a total of 7 days. As with all of our trips nothing is spared to ensure your complete satisfaction.

Muzzleloader Wilderness Pack-in Elk Hunting
All of our muzzleloader wilderness pack-in hunts are fully guided. There is no better way to experience a black powder hunt than by horseback far away from everything in the wilderness. Hunt like pilgrims and pioneers did when the
muzzleloader reigned supreme. Black powder seasons are in Mid-September while the elk are in prime rut. This is unquestionably one of those hunts where you can let several bulls go before squeezing the trigger. Trophy potential is unlimited. As with all of our guided hunts there is a 2 hunter per 1 guide ratio, and you are provided with a well outfitted camp and some fine home cooked meals. Our wilderness guided hunts take place in a limited license unit so the black powder tags are drawn in a separate drawing from the state wide licenses. This makes the tags even harder to get. However, these limited units have the best elk hunting in Colorado. Right now it takes a minimum of 8 preference points to draw. Black powder hunts are 6 full days of hunting with a day for travel each end of the hunt for a 8 day trip.

Wilderness Pack-in Drop Camps
These hunts are for the true do-it-yourselfer. We provide you with a well outfitted camp and show you some of our favorite hunting areas. You are responsible for your bringing your own food and caring for downed game. After we pack you in and get you situated you are left to hunt. We check you mid week and pack out any animals you have harvested and at trips end we pack you out. Drop Camps are great for the truly motivated and knowledgeable hunter. You will get out of this hunt what you put into it. If you are out hunting everyday you will find game. However if you sit around camp your chances of tagging out is not good. This drop camp is in an over-the-counter tag unit, but is situated right on the border of a limited unit so the hunting is quite good. If you already have Colorado Preference Points or you book your trip several years in advance we can set your drop camp in the limited trophy unit. This trip is 6 days of hunting with 2 days in advance to scout and 1 day to pack out.
